HAPPENING NOW: Cuerdas 5 Workshop II in Silay City

Workshop II for the Cuerdas sang Paghiliusa: the 5th International Rondalla/Plucked String Music Festival is conducted by Dr. Cecilia de la Paz from the University of the Philippines, also the curator of the Exhibition Component of the festival which will be held on November 3-11, 2018 here in Silay City, Philippines. The output of the workshop will form part of the content of the festival exhibition about the Local History and Music of Silay City which will be housed at the Puericulture Center, a newly restored heritage gabaldon structure located at the city center.

Cuerdas sang Paghiliusa (Strings of Unity) was formalized through a MOA signing between partner organizations on February 21, 2018 at the Civic Center in SIlay City.

Dr. Ramon P. Santos (National Artist for Music), festival director represented the National Music Competition for Young Artists (NAMCYA) Foundation and the Musicological Society of the Philippines (MSP), and Hon. Mark Andrew J. Golez (City Mayor) represented the City of Silay; with Atty. Ryan Montoro (City Administrator), and Ms, Aurea Brigino (Festival Manager) as witnesses.

Attended by the members of the Provincial government, and City government units, DepEd officials, the press and various organizations, a Press Conference was also held to inform the public about the festival.

Dr. Ramon Santos and Ms. Brigino presented the history of the festival and the responsibilities that the partner organization shall take. Mayor Golez responded in his speech that the city is privileged to host the prestigious festival, at the same time happy to take on the challenge.
