
HAPPENING NOW: Cuerdas 5 Workshop II in Silay City
Workshop II for the Cuerdas sang Paghiliusa: the 5th International Rondalla/Plucked String Music Festival is conducted by Dr. Cecilia de la Paz from the University of the Philippines, also the curator of the Exhibition Component of the festival which will be held on November 3-11, 2018 here in Silay City, Philippines. The output of the workshop will form part of the content of the festival exhibition about the Local History and Music of Silay City which will be housed at the Puericulture Center, a newly restored heritage gabaldon structure located at the city center.

Ensemble NAYA is a collection of outstanding musicians with multi-cultural backgrounds, who together share a passion for performing and exploring Western classical music and the music of other cultures.The group was established as a result of an exciting and successful musical relationship formed at Gothenburg Opera in Sweden, in 2008. Ensemble NAYA have recently recorded their first album and are gaining recognition and a rapidly growing reputation, with invitations to perform at international venues such as the Wigmore Hall, Halle Handel Festival, Chateau de Versailles, Israel Festival, Lucerne Festival, Stockholm early music Festival, Flemish Opera, and Concertgebouw Brugge. Further plans include a live radio broadcast from the Henry Crown Hall, Jerusalem and programmes on BBC Radio 3 and Classic FM UK. Ensemble NAYA is already forging exciting collaborations with some of today’s leading early music specialists, including Laurence Cummings, Emanuel Heim, Werner Erhardt, Iain Burnside, Graham Johnson and many others.Their debut project is a programme of music inspired by ancient and modern Jewish texts, both sacred and secular from around the world. MALVICA CHOPRA and MUTHU KUMAR, India
Malvica Chopra has been learning music since the tender age of 11. She is learning under one of the greatest Gharanas or musical lineage of the Indian classical music called the Imdadkhani Gharana from the very accomplished Smt, Anuoama Bhagwat. This style of playing the sitar includes a more lyrical style of presenting the musical notes as the emphasis is on making it sound like the human voice.
Muthu Kumar, with over 20 years in the music industry has made a niche for himself as a tabla player / percussionist par excellence. Having studied under legends like the Great Unstad Zakir Hussain and UstadAllakarha. Muthu has traveled the world and performed on many prestigious stages and music festivals. He has accompanied the likes of Alice Coltrane, Maynard Ferguson, John Barnes, and Bill Laswell, to name a few.
Both Malvica and Muthu will participate in the upcoming Cuerdas sang Paghiliusa: the 5th International Rondalla/Plucked Strings Music Festival in Silay City, Philippines on November 3-11, 2018.
