The City of Silay shall be the host of Cuerdas 5 through the dynamic leadership of Hon. Mayor Mark Andrew Arthur J. Golez. It will be called “CUERDAS SANG PAGHILIUSA” a local term for Strings of Unity. For this Festival, we are envisioning to gather the following countries to participate:Philippines, China, France, India, Iran, Israel, Japan, Russia, South Korea, Spain, Taiwan, Thailand, Uganda, and Vietnam.
Like the previous festivals, Cuerdas sang Paghilusa shall feature concerts; outreach performances; symposium & workshop; an exhibition on rondalla and Silay’s music heritage, and the plucked music traditions of the world;and other special activities that promote a deeper understanding and appreciation of shared heritage of plucked string music all over the world. Cuerdas sang Paghilusa will also introduce a new feature highlighting the importance of this shared musical heritage – a special concert of new compositions for the plucked instruments of various countries.
Cuerdas sang Paghilusa is presented by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) and the Silay City Government with the support of the Office of Senator Loren Legarda in partnership with the Provincial Government of Negros Offidental, Department of Education-Silay City, Asian Composers League Philippines (ACL), Musicological Society of the Philippines (MSP), the UP College of Music and the National Music Competitions for Young Artists (NAMCYA) Foundation.
